Classic Arts News Steve Reich Speaks Tonight as Part of Daniel Pearl World Music Days Steve Reich will speak tonight at Aish NY, a branch of the Jewish educational network Aish HaTorah, on Manhattan's Upper West Side as part of Daniel Pearl World Music Days. The composer will play a recording of his Daniel Variations, slated for release in Februrary, and answer audience questions.
Set to texts from the Book of Daniel and words by the late Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl, Daniel Variations was premiered last October at the Barbican Centre in London. The 30-minute work is scored for two clarinets, four pianos, percussion, strings and voices.

Daniel Pearl World Music Days is an annual global network of concerts begun by Pearl's family in 2002 to commemorate Pearl's October 10 birthday and to foster cross-cultural understanding. "Music Days is about raising awareness of the universal power of music to bridge cultural divides; it is not a fundraiser," said Jackie Gelfand, executive director of the Daniel Pearl Foundation, in a statement.

Tonight's event begins at 7 p.m. Admission is $10-15. Aish NY is located at 313 West 83rd Street, between West End and Riverside. Visit www.danielpearlmusicdays.org for more information.
