Pianist-singer Steve Ross and actress Karen Murphy will star in L'Amour, the Merrier!, a new musical revue conceived by Ross featuring songs by the Gershwins, Cole Porter, Irving Berlin and others, Nov. 3-22 at Off Broadway's Kaufman Theatre. It's billed as "a lighthearted revue celebrating the dreams and differences of men and women together." The two-act show is part of Peter Ligeti's "In Performance Series at the Kaufman," which recently hosted Wesla Whitfield's Oct. 13-Nov. 1 stand there.
Lean, elegant, impish Ross, who played piano and served at the butler opposite Frank Langella in 1997's Present Laughter on Broadway, has performed his cabaret act at some of the most illustrious nightspots in the world, from the Algonquin Hotel in New York, to the Ritz in London, to Tokyo's Imperial Hotel.
In 1992, he made his Off-Broadway debut with I Won't Dance, featuring songs made famous by Fred Astaire. His recording include "I Won't Dance," "Close: Steve Ross and Cole Porter" and the forthcoming "Travels With My Piano."
Murphy, the "special guest" of the act, has performed on Broadway (Titanic), on tour (Les Miserables) and in regional theatre.
