He's playing Link Larkin, a role he's tackled before, subbing until the end of the month for Ashley Parker Angel, who will return in late April.

Hairspray, based on the John Waters film of the same name, is about a zaftig Baltimore girl in the 1960s who breaks racial barriers (as well as body-type barriers) when she leads the fight to integrate a local TV dance show. Along the way, she snags the hottest boy in high school — Link.

Tveit appeared in North Shore Music Theatre's Three Musketeers musical. He's played Link in the Broadway and touring productions of Hairspray. His next job is in the world premiere musical, Saved, at Playwrights Horizons.

The current Hairspray cast includes Shannon Durig as Tracy Turnblad, George Wendt as Edna Turnblad, Mary Birdsong as Velma, Darlene Love as Motormouth Maybelle, Ken Marks as Wilbur, Nikki Scalera as Penny, Clarke Thorell as Corny, Tevin Campbell as Seaweed, Carla Duren as Inez and Ashley Spencer as Amber.
