The annual labs allow writers to shape their developing work in a supportive environment with the aid of a professional director and cast. Sundance is accepting submissions through Nov. 15 for the lab that will run July 8-28, 2013.
“The Theatre Lab is designed to surround artists with an environment that will support and amplify creative impulses and risk-taking," artistic director Philip Himberg said in a statement. “Each year Sundance identifies talent new to the scene as it welcomes more experienced and seasoned individuals."
Submitted works cannot have been previously produced, but may have received workshops or readings. Applicants will be notified on or after April 15, 2013. A maximum of eight projects will be selected to participate. Visit sundance.org/theatreapp to apply.
Sundance provides each selected artist with a $1,500 honorarium, as well as artistic support including actors, dramaturges, rehearsal space and stage management. Each lab culminates in a presentation for the theatre lab community and a feedback session with Sundance staff.
