News   Sunset for Billie Dawn: Broadway's Born Yesterday Closes June 26
The new Broadway production of Garson Kanin's Born Yesterday, which earned Nina Arianda a Best Actress Tony Award nomination for her portrayal of dumb-blonde Billie Dawn, closes June 26, a month earlier than expected. Its limited run was originally scheduled through July 31.

It will have played 28 previews and 73 performances at the Cort Theatre. Tony winner Doug Hughes directed the revival of the 1946 Broadway hit that also stars Jim Belushi and Robert Sean Leonard. It opened April 24 following previews from March 31.

For her performance as Billie, Arianda won the Outer Critics Circle Award for Best Actress in a Play and also received a nomination for the Drama Desk Award. The play, which made Judy Holiday a star for her performance on Broadway and in the film version, tells the story of the dumb-blonde ex-chorus girl named Billie Dawn, whose lover, a crooked businessman seeking favors in Washington, DC, hires a reporter to educate her.

The scenic design for Born Yesterday is by John Lee Beatty; lighting design is by Peter Kaczorowski; original music/sound design is by David Van Tieghem; hair/wig design is by Tom Watson; casting is by Jay Binder; fight direction is by J. David Brimmer; production stage manager is Tripp Phillips. Born Yesterday is produced by Philip Morgaman, Anne Caruso, Vincent Caruso, Frankie J. Grande, James P. MacGilvray, Brian Kapetanis, and Robert S. Basso in association with Peter J. Puleo.
