News Susan Schulman Directs CanStage Workshop of Musical Not Wanted on the Voyage by Bartram & Hill Susan H. Schulman, the director who cultivated Off Broadway's Violet and Broadway's The Secret Garden, is helming a May 17-28 workshop of a new musical, Not Wanted on the Voyage, an adaptation of Timothy Findley's novel.

Music and lyrics are by Neil Bartram, with book by Brian Hill. The workshop is ongoing at Toronto's CanStage.

The "irreverent recounting of the story of the great flood, the ark and the dysfunctional family at the center of it all" (according to an announcement) features Barbara Barsky, Tom Rooney (Toronto's Hairspray), Michael Therriault (Leo Bloom of The Producers in Toronto), Steve Ross (The Producers), Blythe Wilson (The Last 5 Years), Juan Chioran (Roger DeBris, The Producers), Jennifer Stewart (Penny Pingleton of Hairspray), Jason Knight and Nicola Lipman. Also in the cast are Eliza Jane Scott, Divine Earth Essence, Saidah Baba Talibah, Robin Hutton, Christina Gordon, Alon Nashman, Darcy Evans and James Kall.

Music direction is by Rick Fox.

The piece is billed as "a cross between The Skin of Our Teeth and 'Watership Down'" that "turns the familiar story of the ark on its ear by looking at it through the eyes of Noah's wife.
