Playwright Suzan-Lori Parks (The America Play ) will direct a reading of her new work, In the Blood, Nov. 9 at 7 PM, at CT's Hartford Stage. The evening will be the first edition in Hartford's new VOICES! reading series. In the Blood is based on Nathaniel Hawthorn's classic novel, The Scarlet Letter. Parks takes a new look at Hester Prynne, the young girl whose adulterous affair causes her to be ostracized by her Puritan community.

Ironically, the reading of this tale of religious intolerance will take place across the street from Hartford Stage at the auditorium of Christ Church Cathedral. For information, call (860) 527-5151.
