News Swados Pens Score for LaMaMa's Room to Panic Room to Panic, featuring an original score by Tony nominee Elizabeth Swados, will begin performances at LaMaMa Oct. 3.

Created by theatrical puppeteer Federico Restrepo and Denise Greber of LOCO7, Room to Panic is the third production in the Immigrant Trilogy, which includes 9 Windows and Open Door. The new production will officially open Oct. 4 and continue through Oct. 28.

Restrepo directs and choreographs the piece for which he also designed the puppet, set, video and lighting creations. Costume design is by Denise Greber.

Performing Room to Panic are Restrepo, Greber, Cary Gant, Allison Hiroto, Sara Galassini, Emily Vick, Linwood Young, Joah Gonzales, Kat Yew and Dmitry Chepovetsky.

Utilizing large puppets, mask work and video multimedia, Room to Panic explores the journey and assimilation of immigrants into a new world. The production also incorporates text from Elias Khoury's novel "Gate of the Sun."

Swados' continuous score features live percussion, violin, Shakuhachi and keyboard. Elizabeth Swados earned Tony nominations for her work as composer, lyricist, book writer, choreographer and director of Runaways. She has penned book, music and lyrics for Alice in Concert as well as Lullabye and Goodnight, The Trilogy, Nightclub Cantata and Groundhog. Her previous collaborations with Restrepo include Open Door and Everything Is Different.

Room to Panic is part of The La MaMa Puppet Series Festival Part 2, which features multicultural works from Hawaii, Colombia and Japan.
