The production will be staged at the South Bank venue from Aug. 4 (first preview) to Sept. 6, with an opening night on Aug. 7. Directed by Paul Kerryson and choreographed by Cooper, the show is a 1930's dance based piece featuring the superb ballet number Slaughter on Tenth Avenue. Booking for the show opened Feb. 20.
Cooper is one of British ballet's leading stars, having originated the role of the Swan in Matthew Bourne's stunning version of Swan Lake. He has moved on from a career with the Royal Ballet to work freelance, and is, with On Your Toes, making the crossover into mainstream musicals.
As he revealed to Theatrenow last year, he also has ambitions as a singer, so it may well be that ballet's eventual loss will be the West End's definite gain.
