Stage stars Cate Blanchett, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Hal Holbrook, Vanessa Redgrave and Amy Ryan were among the nominees announced Dec. 11 by the Broadcast Film Critics Association for the upcoming Critics' Choice Awards.

The awards are bestowed annually "to honor the finest in cinematic achievement," according to a release. Winners will be revealed at the 13th annual Critics' Choice Awards ceremony, which will be broadcast live on VH1 Jan. 7, 2008, from the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium.

The movie musicals "Sweeney Todd" and "Hairspray" were nominated for Best Acting Ensemble along with the casts for "Juno" (featuring Cyrano de Bergerac star Jennifer Garner and stage vets J.K. Simmons and Allison Janney), "No Country for Old Men" (upcoming "Nine" star Javier Bardem), "Gone Baby Gone" (with Broadway's Amy Ryan) and "Before the Devil Knows You're Dead." The latter features Philip Seymour Hoffman, Marisa Tomei, Ethan Hawke and Albert Finney.

Stage and screen star Cate Blanchett (Hedda Gabler) earned noms in both the Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress categories for her work in, respectively, "Elizabeth: The Golden Age" and "I'm Not There." Joel Coen and Ethan Coen (Almost an Evening) are also double nominees for Best Director and Best Writer for their film "No Country for Old Men." Their competition in the the Best Writer category includes Farnsworth Invention scribe Aaron Sorkin for his screenplay for "Charlie Wilson's War."

Broadway composer Alan Menken is nominated for Best Composer for his work on the film "Enchanted." His song "That's How You Know" (penned with Stephen Schwartz) will compete with the "Hairspray" tune "Come So Far" (by Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman).
