Sweeney Todd to Transfer from London Pie Shop to West End | Playbill

News Sweeney Todd to Transfer from London Pie Shop to West End Last year's London fringe production of Sondheim and Wheeler's Sweeney Todd that was presented in a site-specific staging at a real-life London pie and mash shop in Tooting in South London is to transfer to a recreation of the shop on Shaftesbury Avenue in the West End.

Located at 39-45 Shaftesbury Avenue, it will begin performances March 12 for a run through May 16. Bill Buckhurst will direct a cast led by Jeremy Secomb in the title role and Siobhan McCarthy, returning to the role of Mrs. Lovett.

Secomb's previous West End credits include Lend Me a Tenor and Evita and tours of Phantom of the Opera and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.

McCarthy originated the role of Donna Sheridan in the premiere of Mamma Mia! at the Prince Edward Theatre. Other West End credits include Evita, Blood Brothers, Chess, Les Miserables and Jesus Christ Superstar. She also appeared in Deborah Warner's production of Medea (West End, U.K. tour and Broadway).

The cast also includes returning cast members Kiera Jay as Adolfo Pirelli and Beggar Woman, Ian Mowat as Beadle Bamford, Nadim Naaman as Anthony Hope, Duncan Smith as Judge Turpin and Joseph Taylor as Tobias Ragg, and newcomer to the cast Zoe Doano as Johanna Barker.

The production is designed by Simon Kenny, with lighting by Amy Mae Smith, sound by Joshua Richardson and musical direction by Ben Cox. It is produced by Rachel Edwards for Tooting Arts Club. In a press statement, Edwards commented, "Putting Sweeney Todd on at Harrington’s last year was a remarkable adventure. The project sums up exactly what Tooting Arts Club is about - creating inventive work that is born out exciting collaborations with people at the heart of the local community. To be able to share the project with a wider audience is a dream come true. The stars have aligned for us and through word of mouth the incredible support of Stephen Sondheim and Cameron Mackintosh we are able to make it happen all over again."
