News Sweeney's LuPone and Cerveris Honored June 19 Current Sweeney Todd co-stars Patti LuPone and Michael Cerveris will be honored June 19 during the National Dance Institute's annual Event of the Year.

The evening, which will be held at the LaGuardia High School for the Performing Arts Concert Hall, will begin at 6:30 PM with 200 National Dance Institute children performing A Midsummer Night's Dream. The performance will be followed by dinner at 8 PM on the Promenade of the New York State Theater.

All proceeds will benefit the Institute, which was founded in 1976 by Jacques d'Amboise in the belief that "arts have the unique power to engage children and motivate them towards excellence."

A Tony Award winner for her work in Evita, Patti LuPone also earned an Olivier Award for her performances in the West End productions of Lés Misérables and The Cradle Will Rock. Her other theatrical credits include Sunset Boulevard, Anything Goes, Oliver!, Working, The Old Neighborhood, Master Class and Pal Joey. LuPone also headlined two solo Broadway concerts, Patti LuPone On Broadway and Matters of the Heart, and received glowing notices for her performance as Mrs. Lovett in the Lincoln Center concert version of Stephen Sondheim's Sweeney Todd. She was seen last year in the Kennedy Center's staging of Marc Blitzstein's Regina, and this summer she will play Mama Rose in the Ravinia Festival's presentation of Gypsy.

Michael Cerveris, who won a Tony Award in the revival of Stephen Sondheim and James Weidman's Assassins, was also Tony-nominated for his performance in the title role of The Who's Tommy, a part he also played for two years in Germany. Cerveris originated the role of architect Thomas Andrews in the Tony-winning musical Titanic and also appeared onstage in Hedwig and the Angry Inch, Total Eclipse, Abingdon Square, Life Is a Dream and the Lincoln Center, Kennedy Center and Ravinia Festival mountings of Passion.

Both LuPone and Cerveris were nominated for Tonys for their performances in Sweeney Todd. The LaGuardia High School for the Performing Arts' Concert Hall is located at 65th Street between Amsterdam and West End Avenues. The Promenade of the New York State Theater at Lincoln Center is located at Broadway and 63rd Street.

Show-only tickets are priced $100. Tickets for both the performance and the Gala dinner begin at $500. For more information call (800) 807-1787.
