News   Swimming Upstream, with Rashad, Guy, Knight and Washington, Begins True Colors Run Nov. 5

The True Colors Theatre Company production of the uplifting New Orleans-inspired Swimming Upstream begins performances in Atlanta Nov. 5.

Tony winners Phylicia Rashad and Shirley Knight join Jasmine Guy and Kerri Washington in the production, which is helmed by True Colors artistic director Kenny Leon. Performances continue through Nov. 16. Created by Vagina Monologues playwright Eve Ensler in partnership with V-Day and the Ashé Cultural Arts Center, Swimming Upstream asks audiences to "to "experience New Orleans before, during and after our nation's worst natural disaster, Hurricane Katrina, through the stories of women who lived to tell about it." Women of New Orleans are also part of the True Colors presentation.

A Nov. 6 benefit performance of Swimming Upstream will feature a post-performance reception with Leon, Ensler and the Upstream cast; the evening will honor the women of New Orleans and the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
