Classic Arts News Symphony Space Announces 2005-06 Season Symphony Space, the movie theater-turned-arts center on Manhattan's Upper West Side, will present performances by saxophonist Joe Lovano, the Imani Winds, and the Ying Quartet in 2005-06.
The venue's trademark "wall-to-wall" marathons will include a free daylong celebration of Stravinsky on March 18, 2006. The event, hosted by artistic director Isaiah Sheffer, will include samplings of the composer's orchestral and chamber works, music theater, dance works, and opera.

The Ying Quartet, in the final year of a five-year residency, will appear in the Stravinsky marathon and in seven other programs, including family events, chamber-music performances, and "Broadway and Beyond," an evening of theater and concert music by Broadway composers.

Symphony Space will launch a new series of music broadcasts this season, to complement its long-running literary series, Symphony Shorts. The events, to be broadcast live, include a program of New York music and a concert exploring the intersection between classical music and rock, as well as "Broadway and Beyond."

In addition to Lovano, the center's jazz series will include visits from pianist Bill Charlap, saxophonist Greg Osby, and vibraphonist Stefon Harris. Classical performers include baritone Thomas Meglioranza and the chamber group Antares.
