TACT Gives New Life to Harold Brighouse's Little-Known Zack Jan. 22-24 in NYC

News   TACT Gives New Life to Harold Brighouse's Little-Known Zack Jan. 22-24 in NYC

TACT (The Actors Company Theatre) will present a rare revival of Harold Brighouse's Zack, in the troupe's signature presentational concert style, Jan. 22-24 in Manhattan.

The satirical comedy by the author of Hobson's Choice has never been seen in New York City, according to TACT, and it fulfills TACT's mission of "presenting neglected or rarely produced plays of literary merit."

The British Brighouse, a Lancashire native who wrote plays and novels, lived 1882-1958.

In the play, "Zack is the half-witted son of a wedding purveyor whose good heart and cheerfulness are a far greater asset than his brother's crafty greed. This charming story tells in the most amusing fashion how Zack eventually wins self-respect and his bride."

Victor Pappas directs a cast that includes TACT company members Mary Bacon, Nora Chester, Richard Ferrone, Rachel Fowler, Sam Gregory, Margaret Nichols, James Prendergast, Gregory Salata and Scott Schafer.

The production team includes Mary Louise Geiger (lighting), Elizabeth Payne (costume) and Marcus Paus (original music). Performances play Florence Gould Hall at the French Institute Alliance Français, 55 E. 59th Street, 7:30 PM Jan. 22; 2 PM Jan. 23; and 730 PM Jan. 24.

Tickets are $20 and may be purchased by calling Ticketmaster at (212) 307-4100. Tickets can also be purchased at the Florence Gould Hall box office.

Headed by co-artistic directors Scott Alan Evans, Cynthia Harris, Simon Jones, TACT, founded in 1992, "celebrates language, the actor and the spoken word" and is "dedicated to presenting neglected or rarely performed plays of literary merit with a focus on creating theatre from its essence: the text and the actor's ability to bring it to life."

Evans explains, "Our Concert Performance form of presentation allows us to re-focus the emphasis of the drama away from spectacle and production values and back to the words and the actor _ creating theatre in its purest form. Most important, we offer these great plays and outstanding performances at an affordable ticket price."

The remainder of TACT's 12th season includes Home by David Storey March 12-14 and R.U.R. by Karel Capek April 30-May 2.
