Performances began September 19 for the world premiere of The Portuguese Kid, a new romantic comedy by Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright John Patrick Shanley.
Seinfeld star Jason Alexander and three-time Tony nominee Sherie Rene Scott lead the cast of the Manhattan Theatre Club production Off-Broadway; the two play a pair in Providence, Rhode Island, who have known each other since childhood but never been involved romantically.

Shanley is the Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize-winning author of Doubt and Outside Mullingar, as well as the Oscar-winning screenwriter of Moonstruck.
