A new production of Verdi’s Rigoletto, directed by Tony Award winner (and current nominee for To Kill a Mockingbird) Bartlett Sher, opened at the Berlin State Opera on June 2. Performances continue through June 29.

Christopher Maltman stars in the title role, opposite Nadine Sierra as Gilda and Michael Fabiano as the Duke of Mantua. Andrés Orozco-Estrada conducts.

The production was designed by Sher's frequent collaborators: Tony Award winners Michael Yeargan (sets), Catherine Zuber (costumes), and Donald Holder (lighting). The staging is a co-production with the Metropolitan Opera; no word yet on official future plans for the production to play the New York house.
