News Tarzan Star to Enter the "Broadway Spotlight" in August Merle Dandridge, who plays Kala in the new Disney musical Tarzan, will step into the "Broadway Spotlight" Aug. 7 at the Ars Nova.

Dandridge, according to the Ars Nova website, will be the latest performer to be featured in the series, which presents new Broadway actors in an intimate setting. Show time is 8 PM.

Previous "Broadway Spotlight" concerts have showcased the talents of Spelling Bee's Lisa Howard, Sweeney Todd's Manoel Felciano and Donna Lynne Champlin, Avenue Q's Ann Harada, Barrett Foa and John Tartaglia, Dance of the Vampires' Max von Essen, Les Miz’s Lauren Kennedy, Hairspray's Shoshana Bean, Into the Woods' Chad Kimball, Aida's Felicia Finley, Rent's Anthony Rapp, Wicked's Idina Menzel and Funny Girl’s Leslie Kritzer.

Merle Dandridge has appeared on Broadway in Jesus Christ Superstar, Aida and Rent as well as in the tours of Aida, Ain't Misbehavin' and Smokey Joe's Café. Her other theatrical credits include The Kentucky Cycle (Joseph Jefferson Award), Passion, As You Like It and Balm in Gilead. On screen Dandridge has been seen in "Third Watch," "NCIS," "Angel," "The Edge," Pros and Cons," "All My Children" and "Guiding Light."
