The evenings of one-acts penned by teens will play Playwrights Horizons' Peter Jay Sharp Theater.
MCC Theater, under the artistic direction of Lucy Thurber and Stephen DiMenna, presents the FreshPlay Festival "produced for the stage by a roster of professional directors, actors and designers," according to an announcement. "FPF merges the voices and creativity of urban youth with the experience of professionals in an evening of provocative, innovative and fresh theater."
The 2008 FreshPlay Festival line-up follows (all shows begin at 7 PM):
August 6 and 8:
Jackson Gay directs the work described thusly: "In an often unfair world, Jamie and his friends manage to remain the one thing nobody else can be: happy. The city blooms in one teenager's whimsical journey through adolescence."
"There's the world you love, and there's the one you leave behind." Maria Goyanes directs "this brutally honest family play, [in which] one young girl learns that the things that scare her may set her free." August 7 and 9:
"Do we really know anything for certain? Or do we just pretend to?" poses this play, directed by Chad Rabinovitz. "Religion and skepticism collide in this comedic morality tale."
Tickets to the FreshPlay Festival at the Peter Jay Sharp Theater, 416 West 42nd Street, are available by calling (212) 727-7722 ext. 228. For more information visit mcctheater.org.
