News Temple Theaters Production of Cabaret Begins Prince Music Theater Run April 16 The Temple Theaters production of Kander and Ebb's classic musical Cabaret plays the Prince Music Theater Cabaret April 16-26.

Directed by Brenna Geffers, the cast is headed by Barrymore Award winner Sarah Doherty as Sally Bowles and Ross Beschler as the Emcee. The duo are joined onstage by Krista Apple (Fraulein Schneider) and David Blatt (Herr Schultz).

The production also features musical direction by Mat Wright, choreography by Karen Getz, scenic design by MFA design candidate Cory Palmer, costumes by MFA design candidate Rita Squitiere, lighting by MFA design candidate J. Dominic Chacon and stage management by T. Lawrence-Simon.

In a previous statement Douglas C. Wager, artistic director of Temple Theaters, said, "Bringing this striking production of Cabaret to a Center City audience is an incredible way to bring the curtain down on our fabulous season, and to extend our presence in the Philadelphia theatre scene. Under the direction of an exciting theatre talent like Brenna Geffers, and considering the formidable cast of talent she has assembled, this is going to be an unforgettable theatrical event."

Cabaret, which is based on the play by John Van Druten and stories by Christopher Isherwood, concerns a down-on-her-luck nightclub singer (Sally Bowles) in pre-World War II Berlin and her relationship with a visiting writer (Clifford Bradshaw). The musical features a book by Joe Masteroff, music by John Kander and lyrics by Fred Ebb. The original Broadway production was directed by Harold Prince. The 1998 revival starred the late Natasha Richardson and Alan Cumming, who won Tony Awards for their performances as, respectively, Sally Bowles and the Emcee. A 1972 film version of "Cabaret," directed by Bob Fosse, was awarded eight Academy Awards. In addition to Liza Minnelli and Joel Grey, who both won Oscars for their performances, the movie also featured Michael York, Marisa Berenson and Fritz Wepper.
