The theatre is now a centerpiece of the club; the restorations began after Pat and Carol Schuchard bought the empty building, which had been unused for about four years.
"At one time, this was the place in St. Louis for visual and performing arts — a formal arts-and-crafts cottage endowed by the cultural elite of the city. Every artist in St. Louis has had something to do with that building," Pat Schuchard told St. Louis Today.
When the restoration is complete, the Schuchards will host a grand opening for a building that will present visual art exhibits, concerts and plays, beginning with Stairs to the Roof.
Williams' play The Glass Menagerie completed a critically acclaimed, extended run on Broadway in February. The production, which earned seven Tony nominations, marked the first time the play had been recognized by the Tony Awards.
