On the series' third season, Howard will appear in one episode that features flashbacks to Dann's (Scott Caan) former life as a cop in Newark, NJ.
"Hawaii Five-0" will return Sept. 24 on CBS. Also scheduled to appear are guest stars Christine Lahti, last seen on Broadway in God of Carnage, and Ed Asner, who will appear in the upcoming Broadway play Grace.
Howard, who starred in the 2008 Broadway revival of Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, was nominated for an Academy Award in 2006 for his performance in "Hustle & Flow." His film credits also include "Iron Man," "Crash" and "The Brave One," among others.
