Jeff Kaufman’s documentary Every Act of Life, about Tony Award–winning playwright Terrence McNally, will make its world premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival April 23. The first of four festival screenings will be followed by a conversation with director Kaufman and McNally, as well as actor and Tony-winning director Joe Mantello, two-time Tony winners Nathan Lane, Chita Rivera, and Christine Baranski, as well as Oscar winner F. Kaufman’s documentary chronicles McNally’s career with interviews from his many collaborators, including Angela Lansbury, Audra McDonald, and Tyne Daly. The movie also looks into the playwright’s fight for LGBTQ rights, his battle with addiction, and “the pursuit of love and inspiration at every age.”

McNally made his Broadway debut with the adaptation of The Lady of the Camellias in 1963. He went on to pen many more Broadway works including And Things That Go Bump in the Night, The Ritz (directed by Mantello), The Rink and Kiss of the Spider Woman (both starring Rivera), Master Class, Ragtime, Chita Rivera: The Dancer’s Life, Catch Me If You Can, It’s Only a Play (starring Lane and Abraham), and, most recently, Anastasia.
