The evening is presented as a benefit for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS. The 7 PM concert promises a celebration of classic songs and some rarely heard gems from E.Y. Harburg's catalog of over 500 songs.
Harburg's grandson, Aaron Harburg, is producing along with with Craig L. Byrd.
In addition to White (Finian's Rainbow, Follies, Barnum), Foa (Avenue Q), Warren (Marie Christine, Diamonds Are Forever) and King (Gypsy, "Haunted Hathaways"), the evening will include Spencer Day, Ben Caron and the group Exist Elsewhere.
Harburg collaborated with such composers as Harold Arlen, Vernon Duke, Jerome Kern, Jule Styne and Burton Lane. He won an Academy Award in 1940 for penning "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" with Harold Arlen for the beloved film "The Wizard of Oz." Among Harburg's contributions to the American songbook are "Down With Love," "Happiness Is Just a Thing Called Joe," "April in Paris," "How Are Things in Glocca Morra?" "It's Fun to Be Fooled," "Only a Paper Moon," "When I'm Not Near the Girl I Love," "Paris Is a Lonely Town," "Old Devil Moon" and "Right As the Rain." His stage musicals include Finian's Rainbow, Flahooley, Bloomer Girl, Blue Holiday, Life Begins at 8:40, The Happiest Girl in the World, Jamaica and Darling of the Day.
