News Thake Named Director of Joe's Pub The Public Theater has named Shanta Thake as the new director of its nightlife music venue Joe's Pub.

Thake – who has served as the acting director of Joe's Pub since the departure of former director Bill Bragin this past December – said in a statement, "Having worked at the Pub for several years now, I have seen its astonishing growth and importance to the arts community. As we start planning for our 10th anniversary this fall, I have no doubt that we will continue in this tradition of excellence in the quality and diversity of shows on our stage."

Thake assisted Bragin as associate director of Joe's Pub for five years. In addition to her experiences at Joe's Pub, Thake serves on the board of the Waterwell Theatre Company, is an associate producer of the acclaimed Weimar New York, and serves as musical consultant and late-night event producer for the New York Television Festival. Thake most recently worked as assistant director for former Public Theater artistic director George C. Wolfe on the world premiere of This Is How It Goes.

Thake is supported by a team at Joe's Pub that includes Sara Beesley, Jo Lampert, Jennie Wasserman, Alex Onish, Jon Shriver and KJ Hardy in association with Joe's Pub LLC partners Kevin Abbott, Andrew Dainoff, KB Berton and Rebecca Elroy.

Created in 1998, Joe's Pub has become one of New York's most popular venues for an eclectic array of live music and theatrical performance. Among the performers who have taken to the Joe's Pub stage are Laurie Anderson, Leonard Cohen, Amy Winehouse, Nellie McKay, Ellen Greene, Patti LuPone, Elizabeth Swados, Neil Sedaka, Michelle Shocked, Justin Bond, Ute Lemper, Leslie Kritzer, Jackie Hoffman, Judy Kuhn, Sinead O'Connor, Stew, Minnie Driver, and Julie Taymor.
