News The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee Opens at London's Donmar Warehouse Feb. 21 The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, which played at Broadway's Circle in the Square for over 1,100 performances from 2005 to 2008 and won the Tony Award for Rachel Sheinkin's book and another for actor Dan Fogler, one of its original company, opens at London's Donmar Warehouse Feb. 21, following previews that began Feb. 11, for a run through April 2.

Jamie Lloyd, associate director of the Donmar who recently directed Sondheim's Passion there, directs a cast that comprises Chris Carswell, David Fynn, Hayley Gallivan, Harry Hepple, Katherine Kingsley, Maria Lawson, Ako Mitchell, Steve Pemberton and Iris Roberts.

The production is designed by Christopher Oram, with lighting by Neil Austin, sound by Nick Lidster and Terry Jardine for Autograph, choreography by Ann Yee and musical direction by Alan Williams.

According to press materials, "Only those blessed with an extraordinary ability and love of language qualify for the Putnam County Spelling Bee. But there can only be one winner and with a place in the national final at stake, emotions run high, hopes are quashed and dreams are broken."

Music and lyrics are by William Finn.
