The 41 Longest-Running Shows in Each Broadway Theatre | Playbill

Lists The 41 Longest-Running Shows in Each Broadway Theatre With Waitress now officially the Brooks Atkinson Theatre's longest-running tenant, we look back at the other theatres' long runs.

Everybody knows that The Phantom of the Opera is the longest-running show on Broadway, but you might be surprised to learn the longest-running show at each of our 41 currently operating individual Broadway theatres. The winners range from the expected Broadway mega hits to some true surprises.

Broadway’s third-longest running show, The Lion King, holds the house record at both venues it has played: the New Amsterdam and the Minskoff. Beauty and the Beast similarly holds records at both the Palace and the Lunt-Fontanne. The Hudson Theatre holds the distinction of having the shortest-running winner, with State of the Union’s 765 performances.

The full list is below!

(A few caveats: Because of incomplete data in limited cases—specifically when a production that ran before 1998 played its run in multiple venues—we’ve had to approximate performance counts in some instances as marked. This approximation was derived by taking the total number of weeks the production played the venue and multiplying that by eight. It’s also important to note that if a production played multiple venues, we have only listed the dates and performance counts that pertain to the production’s time in that venue.)
