The Adventures of "Pete the Cat" Adapted for New Musical | Playbill

News The Adventures of "Pete the Cat" Adapted for New Musical Theatreworks USA is developing a Pete the Cat musical, based on the best-selling children's book series by Kimberly and James Dean. The project, which received an industry presentation Dec. 21, is being helmed by Tony nominee Dan Knechtges.

Pete the Cat features music by Will Aronson (The Trouble With Doug) and book and lyrics by Sarah Hammond (String). With direction and choreography by Knechtges, the cast of the recent presentation included Jill Abramovitz, Sam Heldt, E. Kyle Sherman, Emily Walton and Kevin Zak. Matt Castle served as music director. Here's how Theatreworks USA bills the new work: "Pete the Cat never loses his cool. Jimmy Biddle never strays from his routine. That is, until the groovy blue cat moves in with The Biddles for the summer. Can cat and boy ever be friends? When Jimmy draws a blank in art class, Pete's the perfect pal to lead the mission to help Jimmy find his inspiration. Join Jimmy and Pete on a new adventure of friendship, all the way to Paris and back again in a VW Bus."

Founded in 1961, Theatreworks USA is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to producing theatre for young and family audiences. Each year, the company tours 16 shows including plays and musicals. For more information visit twusa.org.
