News The Atmosphere of Memory, With Ellen Burstyn, Extends Off-Broadway The Labyrinth Theater Company has extended the world premiere of David Bar Katz's The Atmosphere of Memory, starring Academy and Tony Award winner Ellen Burstyn, Max Casella and Tony winner John Glover, an additional week of performances through Nov. 20.

The dramatic comedy about a playwright who finds that his own mother will play herself in his autobiographical play began previews Oct. 15 under the direction of Obie Award winner Pam MacKinnon.

The Atmosphere of Memory will officially open Oct. 30 at the Bank Street Theater.

Casella ("The Sopranos," "Boardwalk Empire", End Game) stars as playwright Jon, with Burstyn (Hollywood's "Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore," Broadway's Same Time, Next Year) as his mother and Glover (Love! Valour! Compassion!, Secrets of the Trade) as his father.

The cast also includes Kelley Curran (Angels in America, Henry V), Paul Kandel (The Who's Tommy), David Deblinger (The Wood, Our Lady of 121st Street), Charles Goforth (underneathmybed, Henry V), Kelley Rae O'Donnell (Heal Me Television, The 24 Hour Plays), Melissa Ross (Our Lady of 121st Street, A Winter Party) and Sidney Williams (Little Flower of East Orange, Identical Same Temptation).

The Atmosphere of Memory, according to the not-for-profit Off-Broadway company known recently for The Motherf***er With the Hat, "tells the story of playwright Jon Stone, who has recently found the courage to write his masterpiece: a play about his upbringing. But when his actual mother is cast to play his mother on stage and his estranged father remembers the family history differently, Jon is forced to rewrite, not only his play, but his past as well. With twists hilarious and heartbreaking, playwright Katz (Philip Roth in Khartoum, Freak) turns Williams and O'Neill on their heads by imagining a world where the boundaries between life and art, fact and fiction, are as blurry as The Atmosphere of Memory itself." The production team includes scenic designer David Gallo, costume designer Emily Rebholz, lighting designer Dans Sheehan and sound designer Brendan Connelly.
