The Tony Award-winning The Band’s Visit celebrated 500 performances on Broadway January 20. The production, directed by David Cromer, opened at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre November 9, 2017. Check out the backstage celebration (cake included) in the shot above.

Based on the screenplay by Eran Kolirin, David Yazbek and Itamar Moses’ musical follows the story of an Egyptian police band, who, after a mix-up at the border, find themselves in a remote village in the middle of the Israeli desert. With no bus or hotel in sight, the band members are led into unlikely friendships with some of the locals, causing their lives to intertwine in unexpected and spectacular ways.

The production won 10 Tony Awards last year, including Best Musical, Best Original Score, and Best Book.
