Itamar Moses and David Yazbek’s acclaimed new musical The Band’s Visit will open on Broadway this fall, with previews scheduled to begin October 7 at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre. David Cromer, who helmed the Off-Broadway staging, will direct, and a cast will be announced at a later date.

Based on Eran Kolirin’s screenplay, The Band’s Visit officially opened Off-Broadway December 8, 2016, at the Atlantic Theater Company to a large number of positive reviews, and sold out the remainder of its run shortly after. Following a second extension, the production played through January 8, 2017, amidst speculation of a possible Broadway transfer.

The Broadway production will officially open November 9. Tickets are now on sale at Telecharge.com or via TheBandsVisitMusical.com.

The Band’s Visit won two Lucille Lortel Awards, for Outstanding Musical and Outstanding Lead Actress in a Musical (Katrina Lenk); two Outer Critics Circle Awards, for Outstanding New Off-Broadway Musical and Outstanding Score (David Yazbek); the New York Drama Critics’ Circle Award for Best Musical; two Obie Awards, for Musical Theater (David Yazbek and Itamar Moses), and Directing (David Cromer); Theatre World Award’s Dorothy Louden Award for Theatre Excellence (Katrina Lenk); and is nominated for seven Drama Desk Awards, including Outstanding Musical, Outstanding Featured Actor in a Musical (Ari'el Stachel), Outstanding Director of a Musical (David Cromer), Outstanding Music (David Yazbek), Outstanding Lyrics (David Yazbek), Outstanding Book of a Musical (Itamar Moses), and Outstanding Orchestrations (Jamshied Sharifi).

The new musical follows the story of an Egyptian police band that arrives in Israel to play a concert. When a mix-up at the border leaves them stranded with no bus or hotel in sight, these unlikely travelers must seek the help of the locals.

The cast of the world premiere featured Something Rotten!'s John Cariani, Katrina Lenk (Once), Monk star Tony Shalhoub, George Abud, Bill Army, Erik Liberman, Andrew Polk, Rachel Prather, Jonathan Raviv, Sharone Sayegh, Kristen Sieh, Ari’el Stachel, Daniel David Stewart, and Alok Tewari.

Part of the Off-Broadway creative team will reunite on Broadway, including choreographer Patrick McCollum, musical director Andrea Grody, set designer Scott Pask, costume designer Sarah Laux and lighting designer Tyler Micoleau. The Broadway production will feature sound design by Kai Harada, projection content design by Maya Ciarrocchi, orchestrations by Jamshied Sharifi, and casting by Tara Rubin Casting.

Orin Wolf, John Styles and John N. Hart Jr. are producing.
