News The Book of Mormon Will Open Separate Chicago Company in 2012 Chicago audiences will get their own production of the Tony Award-winning musical The Book of Mormon, which will arrive in the Windy City in 2012.

According to representatives for the production, the Chicago engagement will be a separate production from the national tour of The Book of Mormon, which will launch in Denver, CO, Aug. 14, 2012.

The Book of Mormon will play a 12-week Chicago engagement at the Bank of American Theatre. Representatives could not comment on plans following the Chicago run, though it is billed as a "new company originating in Chicago."

"We plan to be involved every step of the way just as we were on the Broadway production," said Tony-winning creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone in a statement. "We're incredibly excited about doing everything we can to deliver a great show for the Chicago audience."

Emmy Award-winning "South Park" creators-writers Parker and Stone, and Tony-winning Avenue Q songwriter Robert Lopez collaborated on the script and score to the musical, which earned Tony Awards for Best Book, Best Score and Best Musical.

Co-directed by Parker and Casey Nicholaw, The Book of Mormon began previews Feb. 24 and opened to critical acclaim March 24. Despite the unlikely subject matter and a liberal dose of adult language, The Book of Mormon is written and staged in the vein of a traditional Broadway musical. "Actually, if you look at what we've done in our career, it makes total sense to take on Broadway," Stone told Playbill.com earlier this year. "It's such a great form. You can do twice as much in the amount of time with a musical, because you can go in-depth and you have people go, 'I feel this!'"

Josh Gad ("The Daily Show with Jon Stewart") and Andrew Rannells (Jersey Boys) star in the Broadway production as an unlikely pair of Mormon missionaries who venture from Salt Lake City to AIDS-ravaged Uganda in the hopes of converting villagers with the story of Joseph Smith and the founding of the Mormon Church. The problem is: Only one of them has actually read the book.

The Book of Mormon also picked up Tony Awards for Best Direction (Parker and co-director/choreographer Nicholaw), Best Performance by a Featured Actress (Nikki M. James), Best Orchestrations (Larry Hochman and Stephen Oremus), Best Scenic Design (Scott Pask), Best Sound Design (Brian Ronan) and Best Lighting Design (Brian MacDevitt).

Individual tickets to The Book of Mormon will be available as part of the 2012 Broadway In Chicago subscription series, which goes on sale Sept. 18.
