Tony Awards The Broadway Season is Shaping Up – A Look at Shows Swinging In This April Broadway traditionally experiences a rush of shows opening in late April just before the deadline for Tony Awards eligibility. It looks like 2016 will be no exception.

With the announcement Nov. 16 that Jesse Tyler Ferguson will appear in the Broadway premiere of the play Fully Committed, which will officially open April 25, 2016, there are now five shows scheduled to open in the eight days leading up to the Tony eligibility cutoff.

Here is the lineup as of Nov. 16:

April 19: Long Day's Journey Into Night — A revival of Eugene O'Neill's landmark family drama, starring Jessica Lange, Gabriel Byrne and John Gallagher Jr.

April 21: Shuffle Along, or, the making of the musical sensation of 1921 and all that followed — A backstage musical about the events that led to the creation of the groundbreaking Eubie Blake-Noble Sissle musical Shuffle Along. Starring Audra McDonald, Brian Stokes Mitchell, Billy Porter, Joshua Henry and Brandon Victor Dixon.

April 24: WaitressSara Bareilles' musical about a pregnant waitress named Jenna who gets one last shot at happiness. Starring Jessie Mueller.

April 25: Fully Committed — Jesse Tyler Ferguson in the Broadway premiere of the hit 1999 comedy about a harried reservations clerk at a hot restaurant with a mob of crazy guests...all played by one actor.

April 26: Tuck Everlasting — New musical about a girl who discovers that she has the power to live forever. Starring Sarah Charles Lewis, Andrew Keenan-Bolger, Carolee Carmello, Michael Park and Terrence Mann.

The eligibility cut-off date is April 26, 2016, for all Broadway productions opening in the 2015-16 season. Nominations for the 2016 Tony Awards will be announced April 29. The 70th Annual Tony Awards will air on CBS-TV June 5 (8-11 PM ET/delayed PT) live from New York City.
