News   The Cartells, Douglas Carter Beane's Soap Opera, to Be Presented Live
The Drama Dept. and Comix will present The Cartells, billed as "A Prime Time Soap . . . Live," at the new comedy nightclub on West 14th Street.

Carl Andress will direct all four episodes of Douglas Carter Beane's live soap opera, which will be performed Oct. 16, 23 and 30 and Nov. 6 at 8 PM. Episode titles are "The Eye of the Needle," "Far Above Rubies," "Perish the Sword" and "Cast a Stone." Among those scheduled to take part in The Cartells are Dylan Baker, Brian D’Arcy James and David Rakoff as well as other Drama Dept. company members and celebrity guest stars.

The Cartells, according to press notes, is about "a wealthy oil family having too much fun in an Aaron Spelling kind of way." Beane is also the author of The Little Dog Laughed, which begins previews at Broadway's Cort Theatre Oct. 26.

Comix is located in Manhattan at 353 West 14th Street at Ninth Avenue. Tickets, priced at $35, are available by calling (212) 524-2500 or by visiting Dinner seating is available.
