The Ensemble Theatre Group will present the West Coast premiere of Irish playwright Frank McGuinness's The Factory Girls, a visiting guest production at the Odyssey Theatre opening July 7. The run is through Aug. 5. Linda Bisesti directs.
McGuinness's play is set in a Donegal, Ireland, shirt factory where five women face the threat of redundancy and factory politics. The story articulates their tenacity and fighting spirit, culminating in a dramatic and unexpected turn of events.
The cast includes Thom Cagle, Mary Carrig, Jeff Lorch, Elena McGhee, Matthew Reidy, Esther Richman, Katrinka Wolfson and Gina Zachory. The design team includes Wes Hattan and Chris Kittrell (sets, light and sound), and Ronda Brooks (costumes). Wolfson also produces.
McGuinness has had a long association with the Abbey Theatre, Dublin, where The Factory Girls was produced in 1982. He adapted Brian Friel's Dancing at Lughnasa for the screen.
Bisesti is on the MFA faculty of Cal-Rep at Cal State Long Beach, where she teaches voice, speech and dialects. She has performed with the L.A.
