Presented by The Flea Theater in association with Four Arts Media, the hour-long episodes, according to press notes, "explore American life decade by decade from the early 20th century to the present. American Song takes its name from the way the narrative of each episode in the series is inspired by a quintessential American song from the decade in which it is set. The songs, freshly interpreted, are performed at the beginning and end of the episodes by some of the best contemporary musical artists of our time."

The Oct. 15 performance, entitled Iron Will, features Lois Smith (Buried Child), Reg E. Cathey (The Green Bird), Peter Jacobson, Paul Juhn, Ariel Woodiwiss, Sean McIntyre and musical guest Catherine Russell.

This series will also include vocalist Rosanne Cash along with actors Sigourney Weaver (Hurlyburly), Frances McDormand (Good People), Joan Allen (Impressionism), Linus Roache, Adam Driver (Man and Boy), Danny Burstein (Follies), Rebecca Luker (Mary Poppins), Jay O. Sanders (Pygmalion), Maryanne Plunkett, Peter Gerety (Never Gonna Dance) and Linda Powell (On Golden Pond), among others.

Performances will also take place Nov. 5, Nov. 26 and Dec. 17 at 7 PM. In 2013, SiriusXM Satellite Radio, WGBH and partner Public Radio International will record and broadcast the American Song series nationally. There are currently 13 episodes scheduled.

American Song is created and developed by Arthur Yorinks in association with senior executive producer Bruce Fagin and Flea artistic director Jim Simpson, who is co-directing the series. "Each stand-alone play will be modern, edgy, raw and compelling," added creator Yorinks in a statement.

The Flea is located at 41 White Street (between Church and Broadway). Tickets are $100 per episode; rush tickets at the door are $20. For more information and tickets, call (212) 352-3101 or visit TheFlea.org.
