De Formidabele Yankee (The Formidable Yankee) will premiere at the Stadsschouwburg in Amsterdam on May 1, 1998.
De Formidabele Yankee is a musical play about the legendary American Howard Hughes (1905 – 1976) who produced movies, built aeroplanes and satellites and was a famous recluse for his last twenty-five years. The play was written by Vincent van Warmerdam and Jan Veldman and is directed by Willem van de Sande Bakhuyzen. De Formidable Yankee is the second part of an American Trilogy. The first of the trilogy Wie vermoordde Mary Rogers? (English: Who killed Mary Rogers?) last year received both the Proscenium price and the CJP Podiumprice.
The cast includes Gijs Scholten van Aschat, Porgy Franssen, Peter Blok, Beatrice van der Poel and 8 musicians, led by the composer Vincent van Warmerdam.
De Formidabele Yankee will play at the Stadsschouwburg in Amsterdam until May 4, 1998 and again from May 25 until June 4 at 20.15 hours.
