Thirteen’s Theater Close-Up series will broadcast the Public Theater productions of Richard Nelson’s three-play cycle The Gabriels: Election Year in the Life of One Family beginning December 3. The three plays, Hungry, What Did You Expect?, and Women of a Certain Age chronicled the 2016 U.S. election through the eyes of an American family preparing a meal and discussing politics.
The Theater Close-Up broadcast of The Gabriels will be introduced by Public Theater Artistic Director Oskar Eustis. The broadcasts of Hungry, What Did You Expect?, and Women of a Certain Age will air December 3, 4 and 5, respectively, at 10 PM on Thirteen.
The three works, written and directed by Nelson, track the lives of a family throughout the 2016 presidential election year. The plays debuted at the Public Theater beginning in February and ended in November at the time of the election.
Following an international tour, the cast reunited for a special live stream of all three plays at the Public Theater in earlier this spring. The live stream was directed by Theater Close-Up’s executive producer Emmy Award winner David Horn, who also directs the Thirteen broadcast.
The broadcast will feature original cast members Meg Gibson (Karin), Lynn Hawley (Hannah), Roberta Maxwell (Patricia), Maryann Plunkett (Mary), Jay O. Sanders (George) and Amy Warren (Joyce).
