News The Gay Life: Malcolm Gets, Barbara Walsh, John Glover, Stephen Bogardus to Star in McNally Premiere, Some Men Philadelphia Theatre Company has gathered a clutch of Broadway stars to populate the world premiere of Terrence McNally's, Some Men, May 12-June 11.

Directed by Philip Himberg, the ensemble cast features Don Amendolia, Brandon Bales, Stephen Bogardus, Duane Boutte, Suzzanne Douglas, Malcolm Gets, John Glover, Tom Judson, Barbara Walsh and Gregory Wooddell.

"Funny and touching, Some Men looks at the evolution of gay relationships and same-sex marriage in America," according to PTC, which ends its 30th season with the work by the author of Master Class, Ragtime, Lips Together, Teeth Apart and Love! Valour! Compassion. "From the Harlem Renaissance to the Stonewall riots and beyond, Some Men celebrates where we've been and where we're going."

PTC's relationship with McNally extends back 17 years, including not only the world premiere production of the Tony Award-winning Master Class, but also the Philadelphia premieres of Love! Valour! Compassion!, Lips Together, Teeth Apart and Frankie and Johnny in the Clair de Lune.

Terrence McNally has received four Tony Awards — for Master Class and Love! Valour! Compassion!, which also won the Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle Awards for Best Play as well as the New York Drama Critics' Circle Award for Best American Play, and for Ragtime and Kiss of the Spider Woman for Best Book of a Musical. His most recent work, Chita Rivera: The Dancer's Life recently played on Broadway and will tour. His newest play Dedication or The Stuff of Dreams had its premiere at Primary Stages in New York in 2005.

McNally's Crucifixion had its world premiere at the New Conservatory Theatre in San Francisco in fall 2005. He is currently working on the book for the musical Catch Me if You Can, by Scott Wittman and Marc Shaiman. Philip Himberg is in his 10th year as the producing artistic director of the Sundance Institute Theatre Program.

Don Amendolia appeared on Broadway in My One and Only and Stepping Out; Brandon Bales appeared at Real Theatreworks, Spring Theatreworks, Kalita Humphreys Theatre and Garland Civic Theater (he is a recent graduate of Southern Methodist University); Stephen Bogardus appeared in Broadway's Love! Valour! Compassion!, earning a Tony Award nomination and an Obie Award, and in Falsettos as Whizzer, a role he originated in In Trousers, March of the Falsettos and Falsettoland; Duane Boutte appeared on Broadway in Parade and Carousel as well as Off-Broadway at The Public Theater in Civil Sex and at Playwrights Horizons in The Heliotrope Bouquet and The Bubbly Black Girl Sheds Her Chameleon Skin; Suzzanne Douglas has been featured in the films "School of Rock" and "How Stella Got Her Groove Back"; Malcolm Gets is the recipient of two Obie Awards for Merrily We Roll Along and The Two Gentlemen of Verona, two Drama Desk nominations for Outstanding Actor in a Musical for Merrily We Roll Along and Amour, a Drama League Award nomination for Distinguished Performance in Finian's Rainbow; John Glover won a Tony Award and Obie Award for Love! Valour! Compassion! and is known as evil Lionel Luthor on TV's "Smallville"; Barbara Walsh starred on Broadway as Trina in Falsettos, earning a Tony nomination and Drama Desk Award, and in Hairspray, Blood Brothers, Big and Nine (she is currently playing Joanne in the lauded new John Doyle production of Company at Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park); Gregory Wooddell has appeared in numerous productions at The Shakespeare Theater as well as at The Alley Theatre (he is a recent graduate of The Juilliard School).

Some Men is punctuated with music. Tom Judson plays The Piano Man and serves as assistant music director.

Some Men's creative team includes set designer Loy Arcenas, lighting designer David Lander, costume designer Jane Greenwood and sound designer Fitz Patton. Musical director is Don Rebic. Musical staging is by Sean Curran.

PTC's dramaturg for Some Men is Warren Hoffman.

Opening night is May 17. PTC performs at 1714 Delancey Street in Philadelphia.
