Richard Chamberlain stars in The Shadow of Greatness, a new play to be presented at the Berkshire Theatre Festival, which will conclude its run on Aug. 12. The show opened on July 25. The Stockbridge, MA, fest runs through Sept. 2.
In Shadow, Chamberlain plays a "renowned and tormented playwright" who is trying to divest himself of his fame. Somehow, this involves his inviting three of his biggest fans to his New York brownstone on a "dark, cloudy night." Shadow is written by the not-so-renowned playwright, Gary Socol. Martin Rabbett will direct.
Co-starring as the rabid fans are Jan Maxwell (The Sound of Music), Kellie Overbey (Betty's Summer Vacation) and Ross Gibby. Chamberlain's stage roles include My Fair Lady, The Sound of Music and the out-of-town tryout for Breakfast at Tiffany's.
The rest of the Main Stage season runs as follows:
• Say Yes!, a new musical, by Wally Harper and Sherman Yellen, centered on the 1939 New York World's Fair, directed by Jay Binder, Aug. 15-Sept. 2. Meredith Patterson, Jay Robert Spencer, Denny Dillon, Nick Kutro, Linda Thorson, Christianne Tisdale, John Deyle and Tim Warman star
