News The Heat Is Off: Menopause Will End in Manhattan April 23 After more than 1,500 performances, the hit Menopause the Musical will end its New York City run April 23.

The smash musical that has new parody lyrics (to old songs), relating the experiences of women of a certain age, has played to more than 1 million people throughout the world, according to the producers. The show, created by lyricist-librettist Jeanie Linders, has blossomed in theatres around the country, drawing a mostly female crowd.

In Manhattan, Menopause the Musical plays Playhouse 91 at 316 E. 91st Street between First and Second Avenues.

According to the producers, the musical has "grooved its way through months of laughter, standing ovations and sold-out houses. The production continues to thrill audiences of all ages night after night with its charming and witty depiction of 'The Change' and by the time the curtain falls, even has them participating."

The musical parody chronicles the meeting of four women — billed as Power Woman, Soap Star, Earth Mother, Iowa Housewife — at a lingerie sale in Bloomingdale's "fighting over a black lace bra, with nothing in common…but memory loss, hot flashes, night sweats, chocolate binges, wrinkles, plastic surgery, hormones, not enough sex, too much sex, and much, much more."

Menopause the Musical has been seen in Boston, Chicago, Cleveland, Orlando, Philadelphia, Los Angeles, Detroit, Denver, Des Moines and Fort Lauderdale. International productions are being planned for the United Kingdom, Australia, Italy, New Zealand, South Africa, Mexico, Brazil, Turkey and Israel. The Off-Broadway cast of Menopause features Lynn Eldredge, Mary Jo McConnell, Joy Lynn Matthews and Megan Thomas.

The creative team includes set designer Jesse Poleshuck, costume designer Martha Bromelmeier, lighting designer Michael Gilliam, sound designer Johnna Doty. Choreography is by Patty Bender. Corinne Aquilina is musical director/arranger.

Menopause the Musical is presented Off-Broadway by Mark Schwartz and TOC Productions in association with Brent Peek.
