CHICAGO -- In The Horn, which opens April 4 at Cit Lit Theatre, one art form pays homage to another. Chronicling the life of a fictional jazz sax star named Edgar "The Horn" Pool, Mark Richard's adaptation of John Clellon Holmes' novel features live jazz from a rotating 16-member ensemble. The play depicts not just one jazz man's last night on earth, but the growth of jazz itself -- spurred by the northern migration of African-Americans to Kansas City, Chicago and New York. The production is part of Steppenwolf Theatre's studio series.
