The ceremony took place Dec. 5 in Washington, D.C., and was broadcast Dec. 28 on CBS.

After an introduction by La Cage aux Folles star Kelsey Grammer, Carol Channing enters to sing the title song from her (and Herman's) evergreen hit, Hello, Dolly!, with special lyrics for the occasion. Broadway and "Glee" favorite Matthew Morrison performs "It's Today" from Mame, followed by two veteran Mames, Christine Baranski and Christine Ebersole, trading stylish barbs in "Bosom Buddies."

Laura Benanti performs "Time Heals Everything" from Mack and Mabel, and Sutton Foster takes "Before the Parade Passes By" from Dolly!, with Matthew Bomer and Kelli O'Hara sharing that show's love ballad, "It Only Takes a Moment."

After 2002 Kennedy Center Honoree Chita Rivera performs "I Don't Want to Know" from Dear World, the tribute concludes with choral renditions of "I Am What I Am" and "The Best of Times" from La Cage. The latter is led by Herman's original Mame and Dear World star, 2000 Kennedy Center Honoree Angela Lansbury, along with Channing and Rivera.
