Directed by Sal Romeo, a lifetime member of The Actors Studio, The King of the Desert will star René Rivera (Salome, Off-Broadway's Richard III, In The Jungle of Cities) in the limited engagement that continues through Dec. 4.
The King of the Desert, according to the producers, "is a play depicting a Mexican American boy’s journey of self-discovery through adulthood and the realization of his dreams."
Other members of the creative team include costume designer Heather Mendoza, set designer Danuta Tomzynski, lighting designer Jeremy Pivnick, sound designers Jade Puga and Richard Montes, video designer Mat Hale, production stage manager Maurie Gonzalez and assistant stage manager Ben Rotast.
Following each Sunday matinee performance, a talkback will be held with the cast and crew of The King of the Desert.
A portion of the proceeds from performances will benefit the National Latino Children’s Institute, The Oscar De La Hoya Foundation and The Youth Policy Institute. The King of the Desert was originally produced at the El Centro Theatre in Hollywood, CA in 2010 under the direction of Valentino Ferreira.
