News The Lieutenant of Inishmore Opens in St. Louis Sept. 19 Martin McDonagh's Tony-nominated play The Lieutenant of Inishmore officially opens at the Repertory Theatre of St. Louis Sept. 19.

The production, directed by Stuart Carden, kicks off the new season of the Rep's Off-Ramp series. Performances of the bloody comedy began Sept. 17 and continue through Oct. 12.

The cast of Lieutenant features David Whalen as Padraic, Keira Keeley as Mairead, Matt DeCaro as Donny, Keith D. Gallagher as Brendan, Dan McCabe as Davey, Christopher McHale as Christy and Sean Meehan as James/Joey.

McDonagh's dark play, according to press notes, is a "brazen and unapologetic, bitterly blood curdling and breathtakingly funny farce about rogue Irish terrorist 'Mad Padraic' and the one thing he loves more than anything else in the world, his little black cat. But on a lonely Inishmore island road, someone has run over Wee Thomas. Was it an accident? Padraic's gonna want to know."

The creative team also includes Gianni Downs (scenic designer) Pei-Chi Su (costume designer), Jim French (lighting designer), Liz Atkinson (sound designer), Steve Tolin (special effects) and Brian Peters (fight choreographer).

The Lieutenant of Inishmore – a favorite among critics and audiences both in London and New York – is part of McDonagh's trilogy of Aran Island plays, which also includes The Cripple of Inishmaan and The Banshees of Inisheer. McDonagh's 2002 Olivier Award-winning play made the leap across the pond to Off-Broadway's Atlantic Theatre Company in 2006 – the sold-out engagement earned two Lucille Lortel Awards, including Outstanding Play. A Broadway transfer in April of 2006 earned five Tony nominations including Best Play.

The Rep's Off-Ramp series also includes Douglas Carter Beane's Tony-nominated comedy The Little Dog Laughed, Nov. 5-30.

Tickets are available by phoning (314) 968-4925 or by visiting TheRep..

The Lieutenant of Inishmore plays the Grandel Theatre, located at 3610 Grandel Square, in St. Louis.
