News The Life and Death of Marina Abramović Makes U.S. Premiere at Park Avenue Armory Dec. 12 The U.S. premiere of Robert Wilson's The Life and Death of Marina Abramović, featuring the renowned multidiscipline artist alongside Academy Award nominee Willem Dafoe, begins performances Dec. 12 at the Park Avenue Armory.

Following a 2011 premiere at the Manchester International Festival, the production has played sold-out, acclaimed engagements in Madrid, Basel, Antwerp, Amsterdam and Toronto.

Wilson has re-imagined the production to encompass the expansive 55,000-square-foot Wade Thompson Drill Hall in order to "draw the audience in as though they are part of the story." Performances run through Dec. 20.

In the autobiographical piece, Abramović portrays herself as well as her mother. The cast also features DaFoe ("The English Patient," "Platoon"), with original music and songs by Antony of Antony and the Johnsons.

According to the Armory, "The production reimagines the extraordinary life and work of Marina Abramović, from her challenging childhood in the former Yugoslavia to her present day work as a performance artist. The work straddles multiple artistic disciplines—incorporating elements of theater, music, design, and visual art."
