“I wanted to create a space that speaks to today’s theatre creators and audience. I’ve ripped out the old rigid theatre seating, added new flexible seating, and nearly doubled the size of the theatre, which allows for more creative use of the space,” comments Ken Davenport in a press statement. “Today’s writers, directors and audience want a flexible theatrical venue, and that’s exactly what this renovation has done. I’m looking forward to seeing the first production at The Loft at the Davenport Theatre where the audience is on the ceiling.”

The Davenport Theatre houses two performance spaces. The mainstage, with a capacity of 149, is currently the home of the Off-Broadway production of Shear Madness. The Loft at The Davenport Theatre is a more intimate space with a capacity of up to 99.
