News   The Magic Ends: CSC's Tempest, With Patinkin, Closes Off-Broadway Oct. 19 Classic Stage Company's new production of William Shakespeare's The Tempest, starring Tony Award winner Mandy Patinkin, ends its extended run Oct. 19 in Manhattan.

Previews began Sept. 3; opening night was Sept. 18. The sandy Off-Broadway production stars Patinkin (Evita, Sunday in the Park With George) as magic-making Prospero, who lends his singing voice to the role. CSC artistic director Brian Kulick directs.

Shakespeare's late-career romance concerns a magician, his daughter and others shipwrecked on an island where romance, intrigue and danger are ever-present.

The cast also features Craig Baldwin (Sebastian), Yusef Bulos (Gonzalo), Angel Desai (Ariel), Karl Kenzler (Antonio), Nana Mensah (Female Sprite), Nyambi Nyambi (Caliban), Bhavesh Patel (Boatswain/Adrian/Male Sprite), Michael Potts (Alonso), Steve Rattazzi (Stefano), Stark Sands (Ferdinand), Tony Torn (Trinculo) and Elizabeth Waterston (Miranda).

Original music and sound design are by Christian Frederickson.

CSC's intimate home is located at 136 East 13th Street in Manhattan. Performances were originally to play to Oct. 12.
