PlayBlog The Men of ART's Porgy and Bess Discuss the Reimagined Production (Video) Norm Lewis (The Little Mermaid, Chicago) stars as Porgy in the Broadway-bound American Repertory Theater production of Porgy and Bess, set to begin performance Aug. 17 in Cambridge, MA.

Lewis joins 2011 Tony nominee Joshua Henry (The Scottsboro Boys), who plays Jake, and Phillip Boykin, who plays Crown, in the new production that is making the transformation from opera to musical, under the direction of Diane Paulus.

Here, the men of Porgy and Bess discuss their characters, their experience in rehearsals and the changes that are incorporated into the new version.

According to A.R.T., "This classic American tale tells the story of the beautiful and troubled Bess, who turns to Porgy, the crippled beggar, in search of safety after her possessive lover Crown commits murder. As Porgy and Bess’s love grows, their future is threatened by Crown and the conniving Sportin' Life."
