News The Met's 2015-16 Season Includes Bartlett Sher-Directed Otello The Metropolitan Opera announced details of its 2015-16 season, which will include Verdi's Otello, helmed by Tony Award winner Bartlett Sher, as well as Puccini's Manon Lescaut, directed by Richard Eyre.

Sher's Otello will premiere Sept. 21 starring Aleksandrs Antonenko, Sonya Yoncheva and Željko Lučić. The production will feature set design by Es Devlin, costume design by Catherine Zuber, lighting design by Donald Holder and projection design by Luke Halls. It will also be presented in cinemas as part of the Met Live in HD Oct. 17.

Eyre's production of Puccini's Manon Lescaut follows Feb. 12, 2016. Kristine Opolais and Jonas Kaufmann will star.

Tony Award-winning director Michael Mayer's production of Rigoletto, featuring Simon Keenlyside and Željko Lučić sharing the title role, will also return in repertory as part of the Met's season.

It has also been revealed that Mayer will helm the Nico Muhly opera Marnie, based on the 1961 Winston Graham work that was later adapted for screen by Alfred Hitchcock, as part of the Met's 2019-20 season. A co-production with the English National Opera, Marnie will have its London premiere in 2017.
